5 Tips to Enjoy Galanggal food!

Updated: Feb 5, 2022

Food can be very transformational, and it can be more than just about a dish.

We want you to experience the best and taste the excitement we have assembled on your plate. To do this, we hope the tips below will help you to embrace, explore and experience something new.

Tip #1 - Do Ask Question?

There is always the first time for everything and sometimes it can be a little intimidating. Not sure what food or drinks to order, talk to us. We would love to talk to you.

Share with us your personal favourites like "I like spicy food, I don't prefer fish or I'm vegan but I can eat egg" so we may give the best recommendations and you can relax and have a wonderful time dining with us.

Tip #2 - Don't Assume before Tasting!

Eating out is an opportunity to explore, experience new dishes or try something different that you do not make at home. Don't worry about trying dishes outside of your comfort zone. Certain ingredients can look daunting, but generally most dishes are based on classic flavour pairings.

Think of it like "Roti Jala & Curry" a Malaysian classic flavour that pleases our palates since we are children. The only different with Galanggal is, we are serving Mediterranean based menu, so our flavour pairings are based on Mediterranean classical dishes.

"Food has a culture. It has a history. It has a story. It has relationships" – Winona LaDuke

Tip #3 - Not sure how best to eat the dish?

The dish may look familiar, but what about the other components in it that you are not quite sure just how to eat? Not to worry, just ask us for the best way and we will happily share with you. You will enjoy the dish a lot better by eating it as per our recommendation.

It is not wrong to eat the different components on your plate one by one but eating it together will let you savour the full delicious combination of flavours.

For example, our Lamb Shank Arrabbiata with Baba ghanoush, burnt kale, pickled onions and pickled pomegranate seeds. The best way to eat is, cut a small piece of lamb, add a some of Baba ghanoush, a bit of kale, a sliver of pickled onions and 2 or 3 pomegranate seeds. The slightly salty Baba ghanoush, slight bitter taste from the burnt kale, sweetness from the onion and finally a touch of sour from the pickled pomegranate will complement the meatiness of the lamb and definitely create a harmony in every bite.

"When you taste things in the right order, sometimes they taste so much different than if you taste them out of order. Not that there's a right order, like by rule, but just like in a thoughtful way that makes sense." - Mario Batali

Tip #4 - Asking for ingredient replacement

At Galanggal our dishes are specially designed to create a well-balanced flavour. Therefore, it is quite impossible for us to change the pre-planned ingredients or sides that makes the dish. Changing the components not only will upset the balance, it also will not allow you to savour the dish as our chef had intended.

Galanggal serves fusion food prepared using combinations of multiple culinary disciplines in order to create something new and distinctive. Hence, let's widen your taste buds and give the dish a try as our chef had created it.

Tip #5 - Our portion size

Lastly, our serving portions are weight for a single serving, so by the time you finish the meal you will feel comfortably full. However, you are absolutely welcome to share. Just ask for an extra plate and enjoy your meal.

That is, 5 tips for you to enjoy our food better. Hopefully it will encourage you to embrace exploration and discover Galanggal food from a new perspective.
